Anyone worrying about having keyhole carpal tunnel surgery under general anaesthetic - don't be. I had both of mine done on the 23 May and am doing great. The operation took an hour. I had a small cut in my wrists and one in the palms. The only thing I would say is this; you have to have great support at home otherwise it will be very difficult. Twelve days on there are still a few things I can't do and need help with. You will need to have someone help you with showering, drying you, cutting up your food. Simple things like twisting the cap off the milk bottle, cordial bottle, lifting the kettle, picking up a cup/glass (straws are great), opening the fridge, opening doors, grasping, wringing etc are difficult for a while, and you don't want to overdo it, you need to heal. Toileting was fine, just use those moistened toilet wipes, less painful on your hands than toilet paper. You will not be in excruitiating pain, I needed pain killers for a few days just to ease the discomfort. My wounds are still very tender and you wouldn't think that would be the case with such small cuts, but it's what has happened underneath the skin that needs to heal.
In all not a bad experience and I am already experiencing the benefits - no numbness, tingling, loss of sleep. Can only get better from here.

I certainly had numbness for a couple of days, very swollen fingers for nearly a week. Try and keep your hand up, I found when I was lying down I placed my hands on my chest, fingers towards your face/chin. That helped. It's a slow process, but day by day you find little improvements. All the best to you.
