I have been told that I have to have surgery on both hands, but I am concerned about having them done at the same time. On one side I think it would be great to get it done and over with but then I think that there would be things that I cant do for myself that I dont want anyone else to do for me(like bathroom issues) Has anyone done both?

Hello SMNOREEN,
It is always good to get a second opinion before proceeding with any type of invasive surgical procedure. You should get a second opinion. Also, please review the information and video at:
Natural Carpal Tunnel Relief before you go forward with surgery.
Most health insurance professionals and the medical community agree that all credible and well documented conservative therapies should be attempted before surgery is sought as a solution. This applies doubly to soft tissue disorders and repetitive stress related conditions like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome where the condition over comes back even after surgery and long rehab periods.
For these type of repetitive stress disorders it is better to seek a natural non-invasive therapy like the Carpal Solution Therapy. Any down time with your hands can be very limiting - especially with both hands done at the same time. The Great thing about natural therapy like the Carpal Solution is there is no down time or worrries about taking care of certain essentials like you mention, because you only treat yourself at night while you are asleep and you have full functionality of your hands when wearing the Carpal Solution. Give it a look Carpal Tunnel Treatment and let us know if you have further questions.
All The Best!

It is impossible to have both hands done at the same time, unless you have someone to wipe for you. I had both of mine done within a 2 week period and it wasn't so bad. The day before I had my left hand, the sutures in my right hand were taken out. It is impossible to even make a fist for the first two weeks and then you have to go through physical therapy. I had mine done a year ago and sometimes I still don't have all my strength back. Take my advice and use your short-term disability for the full 6 weeks and take it easy.

I had CTR Surgery on both hands done on Jan 23, 2009. I was told by a lot of people that having both done at once would be a problem, but I can say I had absolutely NO problems with it. No, not even wiping! I was even able to do a little cooking within a few days. I'm self employed( I shoe horses) so I was a little motivated to make this work and it did. The pain has been minimal, I don't believe I ever actually took anything for it. I went to Florida to recuperate, the Dr. gave me some therapy exercises to do there which I did religiously and I also started working out in the gym with a little rowing and weights as well as a lot of swimming. I've got my first appointment to trim horses in two days and I think I'm ready. My hands feel wonderful.
I have tried to avoid surgery for the past year or so by stretches, icing, hot cold therapy, trigger point release therapy and wearing splints at night and at least part of the day( every night for the past 9 months).
When I went to the Dr. about this my fingers were numb most of the time and the middle finger of my right hand had been constantly numb for about 6 months. The Dr. wasn't sure if that numbness would ever completely go away but it did about 3 weeks post surgery. I'm very happy I had the surgery done.
A little creativity goes a long way to figure out how to get things done with the casts on. Good luck. Carol

Try the Carpal Tunnel Solution
| Quote: | | The Carpal Solution gently pulls and stretches simultaneously at three key points on the palm surrounding the carpal tunnel during sleep. This passive, but consistent gentling stretching action applied for 6 to 8 hours while the hand is relaxed, decompresses and gradually reshapes the soft tissue around the carpal tunnel. Over the Six week protocol, the Carpal Solution increases flexibility and enhances circulation and relieves pressure on the Median Nerve. When the pressure is gone, the syndrome also disappears usually for years. |

I had surgery on both but not at the same time . I honestly wouldn't. You are very limited on using your hands for aprox. 3 weeks bathroom usage, bathing and getting dressed are difficult enough with just one surgery at a time.
