Hey all,
Does this sound like carpal tunnel? For about a month now, I have been waking up in the middle of the night with tingling, numbness and pain in my hand/wrist/ fingers. It is my middle finger, pointer finger, and thumb. It is so painful that it is waking me up constantly and I'm not getting very much sleep. It is starting to happen during the day now and my other hand is starting to do the same thing at night. Any suggestions?? I have made a doctor's appointment for the 23rd. Thanks!

Hello Catie,
The symptoms you described are classic Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.  CTS can affect the middle, index, and part of the ring finger and also the thumb.  These are the digits of the hand that get feeling and muscle control through the Median Nerve.  The waking up frequently during the night due to numb uncomfortable hands, fingers and forearms is also classic Carpal Tunnel.

Keep that appointment with your doctor to confirm the diagnosis and get his opinion, but there is no need to go on suffering and losing sleep.  Chronic sleep loss of the kind you have described has serious overall health implications.  If you are like most CTS sufferers, you can get relief from the Carpal Tunnel Symptoms quickly without downtime in the comfort of your own home with the Carpal Solution stretching Therapy.

Routine nightly sound sleep and daily exercise are two of the best things a person can do to stay healthily and live long. Chronic sleep loss night after night can result in heart and circulatory complications such as elevated blood pressure, stroke, migraines and irritability, more serious psychological complications and even personality change.  You seem to still be in good spirits though.

No worries though as long as you get it under control.  Try the Carpal Solution and you symptoms will be well under control by the time you see your doctor on September 23rd.  While you are at your doctor's office ask him to write a prescription for you for a Hand Wrist Orthosis and submit the receipt from First Hand Medical with the prescription from your doctor to your insurance and they will reimburse 90 to 100% of your costs for buying the Carpal Solution.  There is nothing to loose - except those annoying symptoms and another couple of weeks of lost sleep.  You can learn more about CTS and Sleep loss at the most comprehensive site on the web for Carpal Tunnel, www.MyCarpalTunnel.com with reliable Doctor reviewed content.

You can also learn more about the prognosis of Carpal Tunnel Surgery - The odds are about 50/50 - with lots of risks and downtime.  There is a better way. Most health professionals and insurers agree that credible non-invasive therapies with good documentation should be tried before resorting to surgery.

Good Luck and let us know how you get along!

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), or median neuropathy at the wrist, is a medical condition in which the median nerve is compressed at the wrist, leading to paresthesias, numbness and muscle weakness in the hand. The diagnosis of CTS is often misapplied to patients who have activity-related arm pain.

Try this easy exercise to stretch the tendons and ease the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome.

1. Extend your wrists and fingers outward, ahead of your body, positioning your hands and fingers toward the ceiling, like you are signaling someone to "stop".

2. Wait five seconds in this position, then relax and straighten both wrists in front of the torso.

3. Keeping the arms straight out front, clench both hands in a fist.

4. Rotate the wrists down to the floor while maintaining a fist and then hold for five seconds.

5. Relax and straighten both wrists and hands into their normal position and repeat the above steps for as many as five to seven more times.

Chiropractic may help to reduce symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome and improve function. A study looked at chiropractic care vs. conservative care (ibuprofen and night-time wrist supports) in 91 people with carpal tunnel syndrome. Chiropractic care included manipulation of the soft tissues and body joints of the arms and spine, ultrasound over the carpal tunnel and night-time wrist supports. Researchers concluded that chiropractic was as effective as conventional care for carpal tunnel syndrome.

How does surgery help relieve the pain from CTS? Is the nerve removed or do they move it away from the pressure point? Also what causes CTS and what can someone do to avoid it getting it?
